THIS WEEKEND
For the first time in a month, the Dartmouth women's hockey team will be on the road, heading North for games against St. Lawrence and No. 5 Clarkson.
LAST TIME OUT
In their final of five straight home games, the Big Green fell to No. 7 Cornell and No. 8 Colgate.
Cornell
Dartmouth suffered a 3-0 loss against Cornell last Friday.
After the visitors opened scoring in the first period, they bookended the second with goals, finding the back of the net 26 seconds in and again with just 10 seconds to go to make it a 3-0 game after 40 minutes. Dartmouth had some good chances to close the gap, including a nice breakaway opportunity by
Jennifer Costa, but goalie Lindsay Browning stopped each one.
Netminder
Christine Honor had some quality saves of her own, namely two big ones in a row midway through the second to keep the Big Red at bay. The Mississauga, Ontario, native was in net for the first two periods and ended up with 17 saves.
Shannon Ropp took over for the third and had 10 saves while keeping Cornell out of the net for the final 20 minutes.
The Green had an 11-7 shot advantage in the opening frame. After a tough second period that saw the Big Red take the lead in shots, Dartmouth came back stronger in the third and narrowly trailed, 10-7. Cornell ended up with a 30-22 advantage. The home team's penalty kill was on point as they killed off all four of the Big Red's power play opportunities.
Colgate
Alyssa Baker scored her second goal of the season in the 5-1 loss to Colgate on Saturday.
Chloe Puddifant and
Lotti Odnoga assisted to also end the game with a point. Ropp had her first start of the season, making 24 saves in all.
The teams played a very even first period, with Colgate coming away with a slight 7-4 shot advantage in the scoreless opening frame. After the Raiders were kept out of the net during the first (which has only happened five other times this season), they went on to score four goals in the second.
Dartmouth looked stronger in the third period, taking more chances to try and get on the board. At 16:54, Colgate added its fifth of the game, but the Green got one back just over a minute later when Baker got one past netminder Julia Vandyk. Thirty seconds into the power play, the senior's shot bounced off Vandyk's pads and deflected over her head and into the back of the net before the goalie could react.
The Raiders narrowly outshot the Big Green, 29-26, after Dartmouth had a 12-7 shot advantage in the third. The home team was good on the penalty kill again, as none of Colgate's goals were with the extra player.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence heads into its second home weekend in a row with an overall record of 11-11-2 and a 6-5-1 ECAC Hockey mark. After a four-game losing streak to end 2018, the Saints are looking stronger in 2019 and have gone 2-1-1 since the start of the New Year. Last weekend, they had a 3-3 tie against Brown and a 5-1 defeat of Yale. Kalie Grant (7-11-18) and Justine Reyes (5-13-18) are tied for team-lead with 18 points apiece.
LAST TIME AGAINST ST. LAWRENCE
The Big Green and the Saints have not met since the season finale on Feb. 17, 2018, a road game Dartmouth dropped by a score of 5-0. With her 26 saves in that game, Honor ended the year with 818 stops, which put her first in the Dartmouth record book, second in the conference and fourth in the country.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Prior to its game against Harvard, Clarkson has an 18-5-1 mark and is 9-3-0 in conference action. After four straight ECAC Hockey wins, the Golden Knights have moved up to third, just one point behind Cornell. Most recently, Clarkson had a 2-0 weekend, taking down Yale (5-1) and Brown (6-0). Elizabeth Giguere leads the team in assists (26) and points (45), while Loren Gabel is first with 22 goals.
LAST TIME AGAINST CLARKSON
On Feb. 16, 2018, the Big Green fell to second-ranked Clarkson by a score of 4-0. Honor concluded the contest with 42 saves and a .913 save percentage.
LEADING THE WAY
As they have done for the past few weeks, Bracken and McClanahan remain tied for first on the team with eight points each. Bracken has netted four goals and has four helpers, while McClanahan has three goals and five assists.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Ropp had a busy weekend, first making 10 saves while allowing zero goals in the third period against Cornell before making her first start of the season the following day against Colgate. In three games, she has made 40 saves and allowed six goals. Honor has played in and started 16 games so far this season and has made 417 saves and allowed 48 goals.
Kayla Wormsbecher has made two starts and has appeared in three contests, stopping 62 shots while allowing eight goals.
