THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's rugby will look to close the regular season on a high note as it hosts Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon. The Big Green's six seniors will be playing at Brophy Field for the last time.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Ariana Ramsey scored a pair of tries in Dartmouth's 39-19 loss to Army West Point last Saturday.
Â
Ramsey led the team for the third game in a row, ending up with 10 points.
Kristin Bitter was right behind with nine points from one try and two good kicks. The two accounted for all of the Big Green's points.
Â
In a very evenly matched first half, it was Army that got on the board first, scoring eight minutes in with no conversion to take a 5-0 lead. It took until the halfway point before Dartmouth could counter, but a Ramsey try and a good kick by Bitter put the Green ahead, 7-5. One more for the Black Knights with time almost expiring gave the visitors a 10-7 edge heading to the half.
Â
Less than a minute into the second half, Ramsey and Bitter were back to give the Green a four-point advantage. That did not last long though, as three more Army tries and two conversions in a 15-minute span put some space between the teams (29-14).
Â
A late push from Dartmouth resulted in a Bitter try to cut Army's lead to 10, but two Black Knight scores in the last three minutes ended the game (39-19).
Â
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
Quinnipiac enters its second-to-last regular-season match with an overall mark of 2-3. Most recently, the Bobcats had a 64-7 loss to the Crimson. The Bobcats' two wins came against Penn State (23-22) and Notre Dame College (74-20).
Â
LAST TIME AGAINST QUINNIPIAC
On Sept. 8, 2018, the Big Green took down three-time defending national champion Quinnipiac, 40-22, on the road.
Â
Kat Ramage,
Sophie Ragg and
Emily Henrich all ended the day with 10 points; Ramage had five good conversions, while Ragg and Henrich scored a pair of tries.
Â
Tries by Ragg,
Camille Johnson and Henrich, and a trio of good conversions by Ramage within the first 17 minutes put Dartmouth ahead, 21-0. Quinnipiac got in the game with a try of its own and a good conversion and, following a penalty kick, made it a 21-10 match. Henrich's second try of the game and a good kick by Ramage increased the Big Green's lead (28-10) to end the first half.
Â
Two Bobcat tries and one conversion to start the second pulled the home team within six points (28-22). Dartmouth shut down Quinnipiac's opportunity for a comeback with two more tries of its own, scored by Ragg and a career-first for Margot Généreux, and a good Ramage conversion to give the Green a 40-22 lead.
