THIS WEEKEND
Dartmouth women's hockey will open the 2019-20 season at home this weekend, hosting Harvard at 6 p.m. on Friday. This is the third season in a row that the Big Green and the Crimson have faced each other in the first game of the year.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Whereas Dartmouth got to play two preseason contests before officially opening the season, Harvard is starting from scratch. Much like the Big Green, the Crimson play McGill in an annual exhibition game, but this year's contest was cancelled.
LAST TIME AGAINST HARVARD
The Green dropped both of its games to the Crimson in 2018-19, falling by a score of 3-1 on Oct. 19 and 1-0 on Jan. 11.
TEAM BREAKDOWN
The 20-player roster is made up of 14 returnees and six freshmen. The team lost solid contributors
Alyssa Baker,
Tess Bracken,
Christine Honor,
Kate Landers,
Shannon Ropp and
Caroline Shaunessy to graduation.
CAPTAINS
As has been the case for the past three years, just one player is wearing the 'C' on her sweater in 2019-20. Senior
Christina Rombaut is reprising her role as captain, while classmates
Sydney Hill and
Bailee Brekke are alternate captains.
- Rombaut ended her junior season tied for second on the team with 12 points (4-8-12). She had her first-ever three-point performance (1-2-3) in the win over Brown (2/1) and all but four of her points came against conference opponents. She is the first two-time captain since Jenna Hobeika and Reagan Fischer (2011-13). She has been named ECAC Hockey All-Academic all three of her years at Dartmouth and has been named to the Commissioner's List for having the highest GPA on the team for the last two.
- As a junior, Hill ended the season with a career-high five points (1-4-5). She had a two-point performance (0-2-2) in the win over Union (11/30). Every one of her points came in conference contests.
- Brekke appeared in all 29 games last season and had a career-high five points (2-3-5). In the span of five games from Jan. 25 – Feb. 8, she had four points (1-3-4). She was named ECAC Hockey All-Academic last year.
CLASS OF 2023
Schuler added six rookies to the roster. Donning the green and white jersey for the first (official) time on Friday are
CC Bowlby,
Hannah Humphreys,
Georgia Kraus,
Celine Pietraszek,
Currie Putrah and
Catherine Trevors.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Junior
Kayla Wormsbecher and Humphreys will be splitting the netminding duties this season. Last year as a sophomore, Wormsbecher appeared in three games, making 62 saves and ending up with a .886 save percentage and 3.64 goals against average.
2018 IN REVIEW
Dartmouth's biggest weekend of the season was against No. 4 Clarkson and St. Lawrence during the final home weekend of the year. On Friday, the Big Green took down the defending national champion Golden Knights, 3-2, and went on to tie St. Lawrence, 0-0, the following afternoon, picking up three important points.
SCHEDULE
Like last year, the Big Green played two preseason games before going into their usual 22 conference contests and seven non-conference ones. There is just one new face on the schedule this year: Franklin Pierce. The Green and the Ravens will meet for the very first time at Thompson on Dec. 13.
COACHING STAFF
Laura Schuler is back for her third season as head coach of the Big Green squad. She is assisted behind the bench by first-year assistants
Matt Woodard, who comes to Dartmouth by way of Yale, and
Matt Cunningham, who spent last season with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks Youth Hockey teams. Another fresh face in the press box is
Olivia Fox, who was named the director of hockey operations and most recently worked at RIT in the same capacity.
