HANOVER, N.H. – Sophomore
Ariana Ramsey scored a pair of tries in Dartmouth women's rugby's 39-19 loss to Army West Point at Brophy Field on Saturday.
Ramsey led the team for the third game in a row, ending up with 10 points. Freshman
Kristin Bitter was right behind with nine points from one try and two good kicks.
"I'm incredibly proud and excited about how the team played today and what that means for us moving forward," head coach
Katie Dowty said. "We showed growing game sense, awareness, mental resilience and a hunger to compete at every moment. Army pulled away a bit in the final minutes, but it was a close, quality contest. Both teams played a great game of rugby."
In a very evenly matched first half, it was Army (4-0) that got on the board first, scoring eight minutes in with no conversion to take a 5-0 lead. It took until the halfway point before Dartmouth (1-2) could counter, but a Ramsey try and a good kick by Bitter put the Green ahead, 7-5. One more for the Black Knights with time almost expiring gave the visitors a 10-7 edge heading to the half.
Less than a minute into the second half, Ramsey and Bitter were back to give the Green a four-point advantage. That did not last long though, as three more Army tries and two conversions in a 15-minute span put some space between the teams (29-14).
A late push from Dartmouth resulted in a Bitter try to cut Army's lead to 10, but two Black Knight scores in the last three minutes ended the game (39-19).
Next Saturday, Oct. 12, Dartmouth will close the regular season against Quinnipiac.
