THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth field hockey team heads out on the road for a pair of games this weekend. The team opens up at Harvard on Saturday in the final Ivy League road game of 2019, before heading north to take on Vermont on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
•   The Big Green fell in overtime to Columbia, 4-3, last Saturday a home.
•   The Lions erased a late deficit, tying the game in the final seconds and winning in the opening minute of overtime.
SEVENTH AND EIGHTH
•   Thanks to a three-point day Saturday against Columbia, senior
Katie Spanos moved up in the Dartmouth record books.
•   The Pennsylvania native is now seventh all-time in points with 74, just one back of Virginia Peisch '12.
•   Thanks to her goal against the Lions, Spanos now has 28 in her career, good for eighth all by herself as she passed Ellen Remsen '79 with whom she was tied.
•   Spanos has already matched her point total from a season ago as she has 19 (7-5-19) in 14 games this season.
•   Were she to maintain her team lead for scoring, she would be the leader in three straight seasons, a feat accomplished only five times previously in program history.
SCOUTING HARVARD
•   The Crimson are 15th in this week's national polls as they are 10-4 overall.
•   Harvard was dealt a serious blow to its Ivy League title hopes with a 3-2 home loss to Princeton last week. In a battle of the only two unbeaten teams in the league, the Tigers scored the final two goals of the day to come from behind and pick up the win and move to 5-0 in the league, while Harvard dropped to 4-1 in league play. Â
•   Senior Bente van Vlijmen leads the team with 19 points on seven goals and five assists. Sophomore Rachel Greenwood is tied for the team lead with seven goals as well, while Casey Allen's six helpers are the most on the roster. Â
•   In goal, sophomore Ellie Shahbo has shouldered the load for most of the time, posting a 1.08 goals against average to go along with a .754 save percentage in 870 minutes.
SCOUTING VERMONT
•   Vermont enters the weekend with a 6-9 overall record and a 1-3 mark in America East play.
•   The Catamounts will play host to Monmouth on Friday in the first contest of the weekend.
•   Bailey Matthews has seven goals and 15 points in the 15 games played, both figures that are good for the team lead. Sydney Mefi's seven helpers are the most of any player on the roster so far with the next closest figure being Peppe Haantjes' four.
•   Like Dartmouth, Vermont has used just one goalkeeper all season as Sierra Espeland has played all 912 minutes.
A WIN WOULD…
•   …Be really awesome.
GOAL SCORERS vs. COLUMBIA
•  Â
Katie Spanos: Her seventh of the season got things going for the home team, tying the game early in the third quarter.
•  Â
Holley Cromwell: A redirected shot on a corner play helped the freshman notch her third of the season and put the team on top for the first time all afternoon.
•  Â
Myah Pease: In perhaps the most unbelievable moment in a game full of unbelievable moments, freshman reserve
Myah Pease was summoned off the bench for the first time all season and called on to take Dartmouth's penalty stroke bid in the fourth quarter. In her only action of the season, Pease scored on the stroke, giving her more goals than minutes played in 2019.
