BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's cross country team finished eighth at the 2019 NCAA Northeast Regional Friday morning at the University of Buffalo.
Â
After snow and muddy conditions on the original course earlier in the week, Friday's 6K race was moved to be a road course.
Â
On that new surface, the Big Green posted 263 points and took eighth in a field of 37 teams. With that finish, Dartmouth did not earn a spot in the NCAA Championship and sees its 2019 season come to an end.
Â
Senior
Lauren Sapone led the way for her team in her final collegiate race as she claimed 20th in 20:09. For her efforts, Sapone earned all-region honors for the second straight year after finishing 11th in the snow last year in nearby Amherst. Junior
Rachel Ludwikowski was the next harrier in the green and white to cross the finish line, doing so in 20:21 to capture 31st.
Â
A trio of seniors rounded out those earning points for Dartmouth as
Claire Dougherty (61st, 20:56),
Diana Vizza (69th, 20:58) and
Julia Stevenson (83rd, 21:11) all ran in close proximity to one another to help the Big Green bounce back from Heps and earn a top-10 team finish at regionals.
Â
Harvard (92) and Cornell (126) earned the two automatic qualifying spots to nationals, while Boston College (133) and Columbia (160) were third and fourth, respectively, to put themselves in position to compete for an at-large bid.
