PRINCETON, N.J. – Dartmouth volleyball saw improvements with each set, ultimately falling to league-leader Princeton, 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-23) on Friday evening.
Â
Freshman
Grace Wiczek led the team with eight points and four block assists and was tied with sophomores
Nicole Liddle and
Jael Campbell with six kills. Sophomore
Annemarie Horn was first with 18 assists and classmate
Bella Hedley led with 13 digs.
"I thought we improved as the game went on and that's what we are striving for," head coach
Gilad Doron said. "Unfortunately, it was not enough to win, but we can learn and continue to build from here on."
Â
After being down, 5-1, in the first, Dartmouth won five of the next seven points (highlighted by kills by senior
Carly Tower and Wiczek) to make it a one-point set, 7-6. The Big Green kept it within a point or two until seven straight points put the Tigers up by nine (18-9). Campbell and classmate
Francesca Meldrum added kills of their own before four consecutive Princeton kills ended the set (25-11).Â
Â
The start of the second was a close affair and kills by Wiczek and fellow freshman
Taite Ryan tied the game at 3-3. The Tigers started to pull away but kills by Liddle and Wiczek allowed the Big Green to tie things up (11-11). Four kills by Princeton gave it some breathing room, but Dartmouth worked to get back within three (19-16). A kill and block by Meldrum held the Tigers at set point before Princeton won (25-20).
Â
The home team took control early on, but Dartmouth started to close the gap and a 4-1 rally soon tied the score (11-11). The Tigers took off, winning six of the next seven points to put some distance between them (17-13). Princeton remained four points ahead with a 21-17 lead until kills by Campbell and classmate
Emma Moffett and some Tiger errors gave the Green the lead (22-21). A pair of ties later, Princeton won the last two points to end the match (25-23).

Dartmouth will play its final road match of 2019 on Saturday when it takes on Penn at 5 p.m.
