HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's hockey played a good game against No. 7 Princeton but could not get past the Tigers' netminder for a second time, ultimately falling by a score of 2-1 at Hobey Baker Rink on Saturday.
Freshman
CC Bowlby netted the third goal of her young collegiate career, while classmate
Currie Putrah and sophomore
Givanna Foglia assisted.
Rookie
Hannah Humphreys had another good performance in net, playing from start to finish and ending up with 29 saves.
"We played another hard-fought game this afternoon," head coach
Laura Schuler said. "I'm definitely proud of how our team is playing defensively. Now, moving forward, we need to start playing with the poise and ability that I know this team possesses in the offensive zone."
Shots and the game itself were pretty even at the start of the first until a goal by Sharon Frankel at 9:26 put Princeton (5-2-0, 3-2-0) ahead by one.
Dartmouth (1-4-1, 1-3-1) had some nice chances, but goalie Rachel McQuigge stayed perfect until the latter parts of the period when a bad Tiger pass found Bowlby, who picked the top part of the net at 14:42 and tied things up at one apiece.
The second period came and went with no change to the score thanks to good netminding on both ends of the ice. After almost half an hour of a scoreless back-and-forth battle, Princeton's Maggie Connors scored on the breakaway to give the Tigers a one-goal lead at 3:44 of the third.
The Tigers tried their luck at increasing their lead for the rest of the game, but Humphreys denied them at every turn. The Big Green never stopped fighting, running out of time before they could even the score.
Princeton outshot Dartmouth, 31-20. The power play came up empty for both squads, with both squads going 0-for-4.
Dartmouth has four non-conference games coming up, starting with a series at RIT next weekend.
