HARTFORD, Conn. – Matt Giegerich and
Sam Epley traveled to Hartford for the College Squash Association (CSA) individual Championships on Friday. Giegerich is still alive after the first day, advancing to the semifinals, while Epley fell in the quarterfinal.
Playing in the East bracket, Geigerich swept Rhys Nordstrom from Bard College, 11-5, 11-0 and 11-4, to move on to the semifinals, while Epley, who played in the North bracket, took down Nicholas Goth Errington of Cornell, 11-2, 11-8 and 11-9, to advance.
In the Semis, Giegerich faced Joe O'Connor from MIT and won a hard-fought match, He lost the first game, 11-4, but rebounded to win the final three, 11-6, 11-4 and 11-6. Epley saw his season come to an end after a loss to Sanjay Jeeva from Franklin & Marshall. Epley split the first two games, and dropped the final two, 11-5 and 11-4.
Giegerich will play Harvard's Julien Gosset on Saturday at 4 p.m. The winner will face either Patrick McElroy (Virginia) or Charles Culhane (Conrell) in the finals on Sunday at 11 a.m.
