HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth freshman right-hander
Justin Murray was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week by the conference office this afternoon for his performance on the mound against the Brown Bears yesterday. He is the third Big Green rookie to earn the honor this season.
Murray started the rubber game of the series at Brown on Sunday and provided just what the Big Green needed, pitching deep into the game. The native of Charlotte, North Carolina, held the Bears scoreless on one hit for the first 5.2 innings and completed seven full frames, yielding just two runs on four hits with a pair of walks while striking out three. He then turned the 6-2 game over to the bullpen, which preserved the 7-5 victory, Murray's second win of the season.
Three of Murray's teammates were named to the league honor roll for their roles in the Big Green's series win. Seniors
Sean Sullivan and
Steffen Torgersen each were 6-for-13 (.462) at the plate in the three games, while sophomore southpaw
Max Hunter earned a save in both contests.
Dartmouth (11-18), which plays 11 of its final 12 games at home, next hosts Middlebury College on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Wayne Young '72 and Justin McIsaac calling the action.
Notes: The other freshmen pitchers to earn the honor this season are
Trystan Sarcone and
Nathan Skinner … the Big Green are currently tied for fifth place with Yale in the Ivy League standings, four games behind Columbia and three behind Penn and Harvard.
