KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Sophomore
Jason Liu shot a 3-under 68 over the final 18 holes of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate to help Dartmouth finish the round at 1-under with a 283. Beating par for the third time in a round this year, the Big Green moved up one spot in the team standings into a tie for 11th with VCU in the strong 16-team field with a 293-287-283—863 (+11).
UNC Greensboro took home the team title at 18-under par thanks to Bryce Hendrix, who ran away with medalist honors with a final round of 62 (-9). His 193 (-20) was 11 strokes better than runner-up Florida State's John Park, who was 3-under in each of the three rounds.
Liu jumped 15 spots in the final standings into a tie for 14th in the 96-player field with a total of 73-70-68 (-2). The team captain had a near perfect round with four birdies — two on his last four holes — and just a solitary bogey on the par-71, 7,099-yard course at The Club at Irish Creek.
The Turner brothers — sophomore James and freshman Mark — both ended the round at even par to contribute to the team score. The elder Turner drained three birdies and had 13 pars going into his final hole, only to drop two strokes on the par-3 eighth and finish the tournament at 2-over par (215) in a tie for 34th. Mark took a double bogey on the same hole, but added four birdies to his round in shooting his 71, moving up 10 spots into a tie for 68th at 9-over par (222).
Completing the Big Green scoring was senior
John Lazor with a 2-over 73 with two birdies and four bogeys on his ledger. He ended the tournament tied for 45th with a 217 (+4). Sophomore
Sam Ohno was just a stroke behind Lazor on the day with a 74 (+3), beginning his day with bogeys on four of his first eight holes before making par on nine of the last 10 and dropping a birdie on the other.
Dartmouth will conclude its spring season at the Ivy League Championship, which will be held at Hidden Creek Country Club in Egg Harbor, New Jersey on April 19-21.
