HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's cross country team will kick-off the 2019 season Saturday morning at the Maribel Sanchez Souther Invitational at the Hanover Country Club.
Â
This is the third year that the home meet (formerly known as the Dartmouth Invitational) has been named in the memory of the former Dartmouth student-athlete and coach. It was renamed prior to the 2017 season in honor of Maribel Sanchez Souther '96 who passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer in late 2016.
Â
The women's 6K race is set to begin at 11 a.m. and follows the men's 8K race scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Parking is available at the Ford Rugby Clubhouse lot.
Â
The Big Green are looking to build on team wins at this meet the last five years, dating back to the 2014 season. In each of those five wins, Dartmouth has kept its team score under 20 points, including a perfect 15 three straight years (2015-17). Last year, the Green and White came away with 19 points and the win thanks to a first-place showing from
Glennis Murphy (21:28.92) and a third-place finish from
Julia Stevenson (21:42.59).
Â
That early-season success helped pave the way for continued accomplishments later in the fall as the team claimed second at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championship as well as the NCAA Northeast Regional in Buffalo. That second-place finish in the former helped Dartmouth punch its ticket to the NCAA National Championship for an Ivy League-record 13th time.
Â
In addition to the Big Green, Brown, Hartford and Maine will be competing.
