POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Dartmouth women's hockey team was defeated by No. 7 Clarkson, 5-1, at Cheel Arena on Friday evening.
Freshman
Georgia Kraus scored her first collegiate goal, finding the back of the net on the power play at 6:32 of the second. Junior
Jennifer Costa and senior
Sydney Hill also ended up with a point. Rookie netminder
Hannah Humphreys had 28 saves at the conclusion of the game.
"I thought our team played really well tonight," head coach
Laura Schuler said. "Obviously, that was not the outcome we wanted. We played with so much heart. The energy was there. The grit was there. And there were so many positives for us to continue to build off. It was nice to see Georgia get her first goal of the season as a freshman. I know that there will be many more to come."
Down by two goals after the first period and with 1:42 with two extra players, Kraus scored with six seconds remaining on the 5-on-3 to cut Clarkson's lead to one. Two minutes later, however, the Golden Knights had their two-goal lead back, getting a third on the board 23 seconds into the power play.
The Big Green looked strong at the start of the third; they had a number of great chances at scoring another goal and Humphreys was making some impressive diving and sliding saves to keep the game relatively close. Clarkson had a different idea, though, scoring twice in a 21-second span to make it a 5-1 game in the final two and a half minutes.
Clarkson had a narrow 33-29 shot advantage. Both teams were able to score on the power play.
Dartmouth will travel a little bit down the road to face St. Lawrence at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
