CANTON, N.Y. – Junior
Jennifer Costa netted her third goal of the season in the 5-1 loss to St. Lawrence at the newly renovated Appleton Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Catherine Trevors assisted on the tally to pick up her 12th point of the season. In net, junior
Kayla Wormsbecher played from start to finish, making a season-high 30 saves.
The Big Green controlled the opening parts of the first period, winning every faceoff and taking all but one of the six shots. Some of that momentum was taken away when an early penalty allowed the Saints to score at 4:28. Dartmouth (5-13-3, 2-10-3) had some great chances from there, and freshman goalie Lucy Morgan got in the way of all of them. St. Lawrence (10-10-5, 5-6-2) made it 2-0 at 16:37.
Shots at the beginning of the second were in the Green's favor and a goal by Costa at 4:46 cut the Saints' lead in half. Wormsbecher had some impressive saves, but 90 seconds of 5-on-3 resulted in another St. Lawrence tally at 11:08. One more at 18:40 made it a 4-1 game heading into the third.
All was quiet until the halfway point of the third period when the Saints scored their fifth of the afternoon. Dartmouth kept fighting to get another goal on the board but was stopped at every turn.
The Saints had a 35-25 shot advantage. The Big Green went 0-for-2 on the power play, while St. Lawrence went 2-for-6 with the extra player.
Dartmouth will play just one game next weekend, hitting the road for the third weekend to face travel partner Harvard on Friday.
