DartmouthSports.com will be recognizing the senior student-athletes who had their fall seasons postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's Senior…Elise Petit, an outside hitter on the volleyball team from Redmond, Washington.
DartmouthSports.com: What have workouts been like so far?
Elise Petit: Workouts have been great! Getting back in the weight room and on the court with my teammates and coaches after 10 months away has been so much fun,
DS: What is your most memorable on-court team moment?
EP: My most memorable on-court moment was beating Columbia and Cornell last year during our last home weekend. We came through with a close five-set win over Columbia on Friday and came back to upset Cornell on Saturday, and it was the perfect way to end the season.
DS: What is your most memorable non-sports memory?
EP: My most memorable non-sports memory with the team is stopping by Nadim's Mediterranean Restaurant in Springfield any time we drive through Massachusetts. We've gone so often that the chef and waiters know our team, and the collective excitement when we hear we're going to Nadim's is arguable greater than winning a tough match!
DS: Do you have any hidden talents?
EP: I can windsurf!
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
EP: I would swap places with our libero,
Bella Hedley, because not only is she an incredible defender and I think I could learn a lot from seeing the court through her eyes, but she's also a TikTok aficionado!
DS: What are your plans after Dartmouth (as much as you can plan for anything during this pandemic)?
EP: Currently, I'm trying to find a place to play a grad year and continue studying ecology after I graduate.
DS: What was the best gift you ever received?
EP: The best gift I've ever received was a piece of art that my best friend from home made of myself and my horse, Tally, after he passed away. It's beautiful and was so thoughtful of her (and I'm not ashamed to admit I cried when I received it).
DS: Other than your parents who has had the most influence on your life and why?
EP: My former club coaches have had a huge impact on my life. They took a chance on me when I was new to the game at 14 and every one of them did everything in their power to help me succeed in volleyball and in life. Without their guidance, I would never have gotten the chance to play at Dartmouth and I would be a completely different person than I am today. I truly feel indebted to them in so many ways. They gave me so much so selflessly and my life's trajectory has been shaped by those experiences.
