CANTON, N.Y. – Sophomore
Drew O'Connor scored twice and five players had multi-point performances in a 5-2 win for the Dartmouth men's hockey team Friday night at St. Lawrence.
Â
O'Connor is now tied for the league lead in goals with 17, tying his season total from his rookie campaign a year ago. The Big Green's (12-10-4, 9-8-2 ECAC) leading scorer now has 28 points, two more than he had all of last season in eight fewer games.
Â
In addition to the sophomore power forward,
Matt Baker (0-2-2),
Jeff Losurdo (0-2-2),
Will Graber (1-1-2) and
Tanner Palocsik (1-1-2) all found their names on the scoresheet twice in the game against the Saints (3-24-4, 1-17-1 ECAC).
Â
Junior defenseman and team captain
Brendan Demler got the scoring started with the first goal of the game and his first of the season just 3:27 into the contest. Despite a 20-2 edge in shots on goal after the opening stanza, the score was tied as Keenan Suthers netted the home team's first marker.
Â
St. Lawrence took a 2-1 lead at 13:23 of the second on a David Jankowski tally, only see the lead slip away thanks to O'Connor's first of the night and Palocsik's third of the season in a 60-second span in the final minutes of the frame.
Â
Palocsik's marker would stand up as the game winner, his second in as many Fridays as O'Connor's second of the contest and a Graber empty-netter followed in the third.
Â
Adrian Clark needed to make just 16 saves to earn the win as the visitors finished with a 39-18 edge in shots on goal. SLU used Francois Boisvert for the first 36:05, making 23 saves in that time before giving way to Daniel Mannella for 11 saves over 22 minutes and change.
Â
With the win, Dartmouth jumps up to sixth in the ECAC Hockey standings with 20 points, just one back of fifth-place Rensselaer.
Â
The Big Green head down the road to Potsdam Saturday night to take on No. 5 Clarkson. Dartmouth won the earlier match-up, 3-2, in Hanover last month.
