HANOVER, N.H. – Junior
Kayla Wormsbecher had a career-high 36 saves in the 3-0 loss to No. 2 Cornell at Thompson Arena on Saturday afternoon.
"I couldn't be prouder of our girls today," head coach
Laura Schuler said. "The entire team played with such heart, soul, grit and determination. Kayla was absolutely outstanding for us and I think this was the best defensive game we have played to date. Our alumni were here to cheer us on and I thought our girls made them very proud."
The first period was highlighted by some excellent saves by Wormsbecher. Even with a shot advantage, the Big Red were unable to get one in the net and the teams headed to the second tied at 0-0. Cornell (21-1-3, 15-0-3) has been kept scoreless in the opening stanza just nine times so far in their 25-game season.
The Big Red were relentless at the start of the second, eventually scoring at 3:45. Dartmouth (5-17-3, 2-13-3) had a few chances in the final minutes of the period, but it was Cornell that controlled the puck.
The Green's defense and goaltending kept the Big Red at bay until 14:44 of the third, when the visitors made it 2-0. In an effort to get one back, Wormsbecher was pulled in favor of the extra forward, a move Cornell capitalized on 13 seconds later to make it a three-goal game. Dartmouth came on strong in the final minute, but Lindsay Browning got in the way of each shot.

The Big Red had a 39-13 shot advantage. Dartmouth's PK was spot on for the second night in a row, killing off each of the visitors' chances.
The Green will be on the road one last time in 2019-20, traveling back to New York to face Union and Rensselaer.
