HANOVER, N.H. — The Big Green earn their first win of the season in a 4-3 game against No. 9 Cornell, Saturday afternoon. Senior forward
Gabby Billing scored the game winner in the third to put Dartmouth (1-2-0, 1-2-0 ECAC Hockey) ahead by one goal. It was the first career head coaching win for
Liz Keady Norton.
Freshman forward
Laura Fuoco, junior forward
Currie Putrah and freshman defender
Kenzie Bachelor all contributed goals as well.
Cornell (1-3-0, 0-2-0 ECAC Hockey) struck first just four minutes into the first period to take an early 1-0 lead. The Big Green answered just three minutes later when Fuoco scored on a breakaway after receiving a pass from junior forward
Celine Pietraszek. The score was 1-1 at the first intermission and the Big Green never trailed again.
Dartmouth took their first lead five minutes into the second. Putrah knocked the puck home on a play that was assisted by junior forward
Catherine Trevors. The one-goal lead did not last long. The Big Red tied the game just 43 seconds later to make the score 2-2. Both sides battled until finally Dartmouth broke the stalemate once again. Bachelor knocked in her first career goal with 1:38 left in the second period. Sophomore forward
Jenna Donohue and Fuoco picked up assists on the play and the Big Green had a 3-2 advantage headed into the third.
Cornell refused to go quietly and once again tied the game in the third. They scored a power play goal to tie the game at three with 16 minutes left in the third. Dartmouth responded with the game winner five and a half minutes later. The puck bounced around in front of the Cornell net and was initially waved off until it went to review. Billing was then credited with the goal and junior forward
CC Bowlby and Fuoco assisted. The power play goal proved to be the difference and the Big Green took home a 4-3 win.
Dartmouth returns to the ice next weekend when they hit the road for the first time. They take on Clarkson, Friday night at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ and then St. Lawrence the following day. They will look to stack up two more ECAC Hockey wins.
