DURHAM, N.H. – In its first competition since last spring, the Dartmouth men's track & field team finished second Saturday afternoon at the UNH Pre-Conference Invitational.

In a field of six teams at the Reggie Atkins Track & Field Facility, the Big Green shook off the rust of more than a year away from outside competition due to COVID-19, posting 127 points to beat out third-place Maine by two.

The hosts from UNH won with 172 points.

The competition also marked the first for Marjorie & Herbert Chase '30 Director of Dartmouth Track & Field and Cross Country
Porscha Dobson, who made the move to Hanover this past fall.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Green and White took the top-two spots in the 100m with sophomore Myles Epstein posting a 10.51 to win the event, while junior Ryan Cashman was second in 10.83. In sweeping the top of the podium, the duo combined for 16 points (9-7-16).
- Epstein wasn't done as he also won the 200m, besting the field by nearly a full second with a 21.71 to his credit.
- In the 5000m, senior Benjamin Matejka ran to a second-place finish, crossing the line in 14:40.32. Freshman Eric Gibson was third, following his teammate in 14:52.72.
- Early on in the day, the Big Green dominated the hammer throw. Freshman Michael Gabriel took second (192-9.0/58.76m) in his first time representing Dartmouth, while junior Myles Schreck (181-2.0/55.22m) took third to combine for 13 points in the team standings. Junior Andrew Palermo (180-0.0/54.87m) was fourth.
- Gabriel (49-4.5/15.05m) would also earn a third-place in the shot put in a field of nearly 20 competitors.
- Cashman (22-11.75/7.00m) and freshman Ethan Hughes (22-10.0/6.96m) went three-four in the long jump for 11 points, while Rahul Batlanki (22-7.0/6.88m) and Connor Luck (21-11.50/6.69m) were fifth and seventh, respectively.
- In his first career race, freshman Will Daley was second in the 1500m in 3:54.27 to earn seven points.
- Corbin Mayes (14-5.25/4.40m) and Hughes (13-11.25/4.25m) went two-three in the pole vault.
- Another first-time performer taking second in an event was Derek Elsholz in the javelin. His third career attempt measured 178-6.0/54.40m to finish second in a crammed leaderboard in which the top-three marks were all within one meter of one another.
- Senior MJ Farber took third in the 400m with a 50.74 to his credit, good for six points.
- Senior Timothy Zepf was the runner-up in the 800m, crossing in 1:50.30. Junior Thomas Lingard claimed fourth in 1:55.75.
- The 4x400m relay team of Zepf, Lingard, Aidan Robinson and Jason Norris took third with a time of 3:28.36, earning six points.
