HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth men's lacrosse returned to Scully-Fahey Field after over 400 days away from action on Sunday, falling to Tufts, 15-9.

"It was so great to be out on the field today," head coach Brendan Callahan said. "I am grateful to everyone that had a part in making it happen. I want to say thank you to Tufts for being willing to play another road game on short notice. I was proud of how we came out and started the game fast. That had been a point of emphasis this week. But our legs started to get heavy at the end of the first quarter and it became clear that we weren't quite game-ready at this point. The second quarter killed us with too many turnovers in the middle of the field and I give credit to Tufts for making us pay for our mistakes. Their 6-0 quarter was too much for us to overcome.

"I was encouraged to see how we finished the game with no gas left in the tank," Callahan continued. "The men continued to fight to the end. I thought Danny Hincks was phenomenal in net for us today, anchoring our defense and providing great leadership to keep us in the game. I also thought TJ Bryan fought hard at the X and provided us some much needed possessions. Tufts is a very good team and I wouldn't be surprised to see them competing for a national championship. Having the chance to play a team like that will be a great building block and learning experience as we look to the future."

The Big Green had seven different goal scorers, being led by freshmen Henry Bonnie and Nate Davis with a pair of tallies and an assist apiece. Seniors George Prince and Matt Paul, and rookie Peter Lapina all had one of each. In net, junior Daniel Hincks made 19 saves while being saddled with the loss. Freshman Hunter Binney entered the game in the fourth, making one stop.

Dartmouth got off to a fast start with goals by junior Spencer Warezak and freshman Ben DiGiovanni less than three minutes into the opening quarter. After the Jumbos got their first on the board, Lapina gave the home team its two-tally lead back. One more for Tufts in the final minute made it a 3-2 game to end the first.

The visitors came out stronger in the second quarter, netting six goals in a row while keeping the Green scoreless (8-3). Hincks ended the first half with 16 saves.

Bonnie ended the Jumbos' run following a nice pass by Paul, but Tufts answered with one of its own two minutes later (9-4). Defense on both sides of the field stepped up, and neither team was able to score for a five-minute span until the Jumbos managed to get one past Hincks. They kept firing, tallying two more before the end (12-4).

Dartmouth got some of its groove back midway through the fourth when Prince, Paul and Bonnie found the back of the net within 90 seconds to get the Big Green within five (12-7). After a pair of Tufts goals, Binney made his first appearance in net, replacing Hincks. With time running out, Davis scored twice before the game was done.
