DartmouthSports.com will be recognizing the senior student-athletes who had their spring seasons postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today's Senior…John Speicher, who hails from Webster, New York.
DartmouthSports.com: What have workouts been like so far?
John Speicher: We've been lifting at Floren twice a week and trying to maintain some strength and improve our mobility. Overall, we're just trying to stay strong and healthy. At Boss, we've done some running work to improve quickness.
DS: What is your most memorable team moment?
JS: My most memorable moment was upsetting Columbia during my freshman year. At the time, they were ranked top 15 in the country and we started off down 3-0 very quickly. We won the next four matches, three of which were in three sets. Storming the court after the win was an incredible memory.
DS: What is your most memorable non-sports team moment?
JS: My most memorable non-sports is walking through Memphis while on our spring break trip and dancing to a street performer in Downtown.
DS: Do you have any hidden talents?
JS: Name the band, but only for today's hits radio.
DS: If you could swap places with one teammate, who would it be and why?
JS: I would switch places with
Dominik Pauli '23 because he can speak three languages.
DS: What are your plans after Dartmouth (as much as you can plan for anything during this pandemic?)
JS: I will be going back to Rochester and working as a medical assistant at a spine surgery center with the goal to go to Physician Assistant school within the next couple years.
DS: What was the best gift you ever received?
JS: Tickets to go to the US Open for the first time in 2012.
DS: Other than your parents who has had the most influence on your life and why?
JS: My older sister, Katie. She was born with very severe cerebral palsy after complications during birth. This had a profound on my outlook on life while growing up. I wanted to work hard and make the most of what I was given, while still finding time to enjoy life after seeing how fragile it is and how easily things can change.
