Hanover, N.H. — Dartmouth women's soccer earned its second victory of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 win against twin state rival Vermont.
Freshman forwardÂ
Hannah Curtin and sophomore forwardÂ
Daisy Granholm each notched the first goals of their careers in the win.
Â
For the second game in a row, the Big Green was knotted with its opponent by a score of 0-0 at the half. Â Both teams had their chances, but Dartmouth (2-0) controlled possession 55%-45% and outshot the Catamounts 6-4. Junior goalkeeper
Charlotte Cyr did her part and made four saves through the first 45 minutes.
Â
The Big Green finally broke through with back-to-back goals just 10 minutes into the second half. In the 55th minute, Curtin received a through ball from junior forward
Allie Winstanley in the Vermont (2-1) box and slide the ball past the Catamount goalkeeper.
Â
Two minutes later Dartmouth struck again. Winstanley played the ball into the box from the right of the goal and found the foot of Granholm who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to give the Big Green a 2-0 lead.
Â
Despite trailing 2-0, the Catamounts continued to fight back. In the 63rd minute, Vermont scored off a ball that bounced around in the Dartmouth box after a free kick by the right corner flag. With just under 30 minutes remaining the score was 2-1.
Â
The Big Green defense was stout after that point. It gave up no more shots in the half and was able to hold onto its one-goal advantage to secure its second win of the weekend. Winstanley once again led the way on offense and led the team with two assists after being the leading scorer on Friday night against Holy Cross.
Â
Dartmouth hits the road next weekend. They travel to Georgetown, Thursday, Sept 2, for a 4 p.m. game against the Hoyas and then end the weekend with a showdown at George Mason, Sunday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m.
