AMHERST, MASS. — The Big Green lost their third game of the season against UMass, Wednesday afternoon. The team held an early lead but fell to the Minutemen by a score of 2-1.
Freshman midfielder
Ben Jenkins scored Dartmouth's lone goal.
Dartmouth (0-3) started off strong in the first half. Jenkins navigated his way through the box past some Minutemen defenders and fired the ball into the back of the net. The 25th minute goal was the only goal for either team in the half. The Big Green led 1-0 through 45 minutes.
UMass (4-1-1) found the back of the net 20 minutes into the second half. After 65 minutes, the game was tied 1-1. The two sides battled back and forth until the Minutemen scored again in the 86th minute to take a 2-1 lead. Dartmouth was unable to answer and were defeated for the third time in as many games.
It was Dartmouth's first loss to UMass since 2012 and the loss came against former Dartmouth head coach Fran O'Leary, who coached the Big Green from 1994-2000 and led the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances. O'Leary has been the head coach of the Minutemen since 2015.
The Big Green will have the weekend off and return Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game against UConn in Storrs, Conn.
