HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth defeated New Hampshire by a score of 4-3 in overtime, Sunday afternoon. Junior forward
CC Bowlby scored the game winner with just 1:17 left on the clock in overtime. It was the fourth-straight win for the Big Green.
Dartmouth (8-8-0, 2-7-0 ECAC Hockey) took a lead early in the first period. Sophomore forward
Tiffany Hill found the back of the net for her sixth of the season. She was assisted by Bowlby and senior forward
Gabby Billing. Just one minute later, New Hampshire (6-12-2, 4-8-1 Hockey East) answered to tie the game 1-1.
The two sides went back and forth until the Big Green finally broke the stalemate with 1:44 remaining in the first when junior forward
Currie Putrah found the back of the net. She was assisted by freshman defender
Caroline Appleyard and Dartmouth took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The second period saw only one goal. Sophomore forward
Jenna Donohue fired a puck into the top of the net on an unassisted effort to give the Big Green a two-goal lead with 11:54 left to play in the period. Dartmouth outshot the Wildcats 9-7 in the period and took their 3-1 lead into the final period of play.
New Hampshire came roaring back in the third. They cut the lead to one just four minutes into the period thanks to an unassisted effort from sophomore Chavonne Truter. The Wildcat continued to wear down Dartmouth as the period dragged on. They outshot the Big Green 16-10 in the third and Truter tallied the equalizer with 2:35 left in regulation. The Big Green held on for the final two minutes and the game went into overtime.
Both sides traded opportunities in the overtime period. Freshman goalie
Maggie Emerson made two saves to keep the Big Green in the game. With about 90 seconds remaining, Bowlby scooped up a loose puck around the UNH blue line and weaved her away around a defender and in front of the net. She pushed the puck to her right, skirted around the New Hampshire goalie and slotted it home to give Dartmouth a 4-3 win.
The Big Green are currently on a four-game winning streak. All four wins have come against non-conference opponents. They will look to take this momentum into conference play this weekend. They hit the road for matchups with Cornell and Colgate. They take on Cornell, Friday night at 6 p.m. and Colgate, Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Both games can be streamed on ESPN+.
