HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team is set to drop the puck on the 2022-23 season this Friday. The Big Green open the year on the road with an ECAC Hockey matchup against Ivy League foe, Harvard.
Head coach
Liz Keady Norton is set to embark on her second season at the helm of Dartmouth's program. Last year, the Big Green notched the most wins in a season since 2014-15, making strides as the year progressed. Keady Norton will look to build upon foundations set last year to continue development.
"We've had a great preseason," Keady Norton said. "Throughout the preseason the team has worked really hard. I think we're prepared and I'm excited to add some depth coming off of last year, which was my first as head coach."
Dartmouth's roster is comprised of 24 student-athletes, including 17 returners from 2021-22. The Big Green will be captained by senior forward
Currie Putrah, who finished last season tied for the team lead in points (14). She is joined by alternate captains
Sydney Herrington,
Tiffany Hill and
Lauren Messier.
The Big Green welcome seven freshmen for the 2022-23 campaign.
Cally Dixon,
Izee Powell,
Shae Messner,
Maura Fiorenza,
Vanessa Stamper,
Meredith Jensen and
Elle Sullivan will represent Dartmouth for the first time starting this Friday.
Between the pipes,
Maggie Emerson returns for her sophomore season after leading the Big Green in minutes played, save percentage, goals against average and wins a season ago. She is joined by Sullivan as both look to backstop the Big Green as the last line of defense.
EXPERIENCED CORE LEADS THE WAY
The Big Green welcome 17 returners from 2021-22 back for this season. The forward core includes 13 returning forwards who are joined by three defenders with previous experience.
Currie Putrah and
Tiffany Hill will look to lead the charge offensively this season. Both players were tied for the team lead in points at the end of last season with 14 apiece.
Dartmouth's returners include five seniors, five juniors and seven sophomores.
SCOUTING HARVARD
Harvard enters Friday's game as the No. 15 ranked team in the nation according to the United States College Hockey Online (USHCO) poll.
The Crimson opened their season last week against No. 7 Quinnipiac at home. Harvard fell to the Bobcats by a score of 5-2 in its first ECAC Hockey contest of the season.
Last season, the Crimson finished with a 22-10-1 record, including an impressive 16-5-1 mark in ECAC Hockey competition. Harvard earned an NCAA Tournament berth, falling to Minnesota Duluth in the opening round.
Harvard was ranked No. 7 in the ECAC Hockey Preseason coaches' poll prior to the season.
The Crimson's second-leading scorer from 2021-22, Kristin Della Rovere returns for her senior season. Della Rovere recorded 15 goals and 25 assists during her junior campaign.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE CRIMSON
The Big Green last took on the Crimson on Jan. 18, 2022 at Bright-Landry Hockey Center in Boston.
Harvard picked up an emphatic 8-0 win over Dartmouth, as Anne Bloomer recorded a hat trick, while Becky Dutton recorded a 25-save shutout.
The Crimson's win clinched a season-series sweep of the Big Green. Harvard previously knocked off Dartmouth on October 22, 2021 by a score of 4-1.
ALL-TIME AGAINST HARVARD
Harvard holds a 53-43-3 advantage on the Big Green in the all-time series.
Dartmouth's last win over Harvard came on October 23, 2015. The Big Green knocked off the then-No. 5 Crimson in their season opener by a score of 2-1.
Harvard has won the last 11 meetings between the programs. Dartmouth is looking for its first win at Bright-Landry Hockey Center since November 23, 2011.
