FRIDAY NIGHT VOLLEYBALL
Fourth-place Dartmouth welcomes fifth-place Harvard to Leede Arena for an important conference matchup with less than a month remaining until the inaugural Ivy Leage Tournament.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Dartmouth defeated Columbia and Cornell in back-to-back road matches and was able to earn its first three-set win over a conference opponent with the domination of the Big Red. The Big Green posted a season-high 14 blocks against Columbia before hitting over .300 for a fourth time this season with an impressive .327 mark against Cornell.
Â
IVY LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bomi Ogunlari earned the weekly award after guiding Dartmouth to those two victories. She registered a .667 hitting percentage in both matches - eight kills, along with eight blocks against Columbia, and nine kills against Cornell. Ogunlari previously hit .769 with 10 kills in a non-conference match at NJIT, marking one of the most efficient single-game efforts in program history. The junior's blocking ability is also a cornerstone of the Big Green defense as she leads the Ivy League with 1.25 blocks per set.
Â
GUTZ'S CAREER DAY
Freshman
Kauany Gutz had the starring role in one of Dartmouth's best offensive performances of the season. The former Brazilian U18 National Team member went for a career-best 15 kills on a .429 percentage. It was the second-most kills by a Dartmouth freshman this season (
Ava Roberts' 18 against Lehigh).
Â
LAST TIME VERSUS HARVARD
The Big Green started Ivy League play in winning fashion in their four-set victory at Harvard Saturday, Sept. 24.
Ellie Blain led the offense with 14 kills and
Emma Engstrom racked up 23 digs, which was a season-high at the time. She went on to top that total three matches later with 28 against Brown. Dartmouth had a .204 hitting percentage and held Harvard to a .174 clip. The Big Green have kept opponents under .200 in 11 of their 17 matches and have won all of those.
Â
FOUR SETS OR LESS
Dartmouth is still the only team in the Ivy League that has yet to play a five-set match. Despite that fact, the Big Green still lead the Ancient Eight in volume statistics like team digs (232), team total attacks (269) and team service aces (110).
Â
GIBBS' HITTING PERCENTAGE
Junior
Amelia Gibbs leads the Ivy League in hitting percentage and ranks top-30 in the nation with a .390 mark. She had the second-best single-season percentage in program history at .348 in 2021 and is on pace to take the top spot this season, should her percentage remain above .372.
Â
MIRROR IMAGE
Harvard and Dartmouth have fared similarly against Ivy League opponents since the conference-opening meeting in late September. The Crimson defeated Penn, lost to Princeton, were swept by Yale and Brown and recently swept Cornell and Columbia on the road. Those matches have even reflected the same scores, except the Crimson were able to take a set from Princeton unlike Dartmouth and needed five sets to beat Penn (Dartmouth did so in four).
Â
DIG PINK
Friday's contest serves as the annual Dig Pink match in support of the Sideout Foundation, which funds breast cancer research and treatments.
Â
WHAT'S AHEAD
The Big Green are back on the road next weekend to take on Penn Friday and Princeton Saturday with less than a month remaining until the inaugural Ivy League Tournament. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
