HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's rugby team wrapped up a perfect regular season Saturday at Brophy Field, cruising past Brown by a final score of 85-0. The Big Green celebrated a third consecutive Ivy Championship following the match.
"It was an excellent all-around performance from the team today and a wonderful way to celebrate our seniors, the 50th anniversary of Title IX, homecoming and clinching the Ivy title all in one," head coach
Katie Dowty said. "The team is working hard on building connections with each other, communicating on the field and playing smart rugby. Our senior leaders are showing real mastery of the game and steering the ship beautifully. This group is special and peaking at just the right time."
Dartmouth (7-0) kept Brown (3-4-1) off the scoreboard to notch its second shutout of the season in a dominant defensive performance. Offensively,
Ariana Ramsey powered the defending champions with four consecutive tries early on and by full time, 10 different Dartmouth players had found the try zone.
Nicole Ihensekhien opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest, and then it was Ramsey's quartet of scores and a pair of
Kristin Bitter conversions over the next 20 minutes that had the defending champions on top, 31-0. Bitter, Katelyn Walker and
Asialeata Meni each found the try zone in the later portion of the opening half as Dartmouth led 50-0 at the intermission.
The second half featured tries from
Cassie Depner,
Nyah Cordero,
Sadie Schier,
Lauren Ferridge and
Josie Harrison while the Big Green preserved the shutout. At the contest's conclusion, the program honored seven seniors that have each been part of at least one NIRA championship squad.
Saturday's win marked Dartmouth's 16th consecutive as the Big Green ride the momentum of back-to-back 85-point victories into the NIRA postseason. They await their semifinal matchup, which will take place at Brophy Field on Saturday, Nov. 12 and should they advance to the championship, they'll play for the trophy in Hanover the following weekend. All matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
"We were lucky enough to hear from Alexi Pappas '12 speak yesterday and we'll be aiming to follow her advice into the postseason, taking time to relish these final few weeks together," Dowty continued.
