HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team is set to travel for its first non-conference test of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday. The Big Green will take on the Post Eagles in Shelton, Connecticut looking to snap a three-game skid.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green took the ice last weekend for a pair of ECAC Hockey contests at Thompson Arena. Dartmouth dropped a pair of one-goal decisions to top-10 programs. The Big Green first fell to then-No. 9 Cornell by a score of 6-5 on Friday before dropping a 3-2 game to then-No. 4 Colgate on Saturday.
Dartmouth jumped out to a 4-1 lead against Cornell in the first period, as a pair of goals from senior captain
Currie Putrah helped the Big Green take an early advantage. Cornell responded with five unanswered goals in the second period to take control of the game, and a late goal from
Laura Fuoco was not enough to get the Big Green back into the game.
Cally Dixon scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the opening moments of Dartmouth's game against Colgate. After a response from Colgate, Fuoco scored her second goal of the weekend to put the Big Green up 2-1 at the end of the first. The Raiders responded with a pair of goals in the second and held on to the lead to take the victory.
FINDING THE BACK OF THE NET
After starting the season with just two goals in its first three games, Dartmouth's offense has seen growth over its last four contests. The Big Green have scored 13 goals over their last four games, an average of 3.25 goals per game.
Currie Putrah recorded two goals and an assist in Dartmouth's 6-5 loss to Cornell on Friday, November 11.
Celine Pietraszek also registered a multi-goal performance on November 5 in the Big Green's 2-0 win over RPI.
Dartmouth's five-goal performance against Cornell was its most impressive offensive output since December 10, 2021, against Post (8-1). It also saw the program score the most goals in an ECAC Hockey contest since November 6, 2021, against St. Lawrence (6-2).
The Big Green have also outshot their opponents in four of their first seven games, including their lone win this far against RPI.
SCOUTING POST
Post hosts Dartmouth with a record of 1-8-0, all in New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) action. The Eagles are in search of their first home win of the year, with a record of 0-4-0 at the Sports Center of Connecticut.
The Eagles' lone win of the 2022-23 season came against St. Michael's on October 1 on the road. Sheridan Terrazzano and Kiersten Browning found the back of the net, while freshman goalie Hannah Saunders recorded a 34-save shutout to secure the 2-0 win.
Browning leads Post with four goals and seven points through the first nine games of the season. She opened the season with six goals in the Eagles' first five games.
Post last took the ice on November 1 against Saint Anselm in NEWHA conference action. The Eagles failed to protect home ice, as the Hawks knocked off Post, 4-0. Grace Glasrud made 33 saves for the Eagles, including 15 in the third period.
A FAMILIAR FACE LEADS THE OPPOSITION
Gretchen Ulion Silverman leads Post into Tuesday's game as a first-year head coach. She previously played for Dartmouth from 1990 -1994 and holds numerous all-time records for the program.
Ulion Silverman sits atop Dartmouth's record books with the most points in program history, with 312 over her illustrious career. She also recorded 45 or more goals in all four seasons she played with Dartmouth and is the only player to accomplish this feat.
Following her time with the Big Green, Ulion Silverman was a member of the 1998 United States Olympic hockey team that captured gold at the Nagano Winter Games. She was also a member of two silver medal teams at the IIHF Women's World Championship.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE EAGLES
Dartmouth holds a 2-0-0 lead in the all-time series against Post.
The first two games between the programs took place last season in Hanover. The Big Green opened the series with an emphatic 8-1 win on December 10 before sweeping the series the following day with a 4-2 victory.
