HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team travels for its final non-conference matchup of the 2022-23 season this Friday. The Big Green return from a 19-day break to take on the Stonehill Skyhawks in Bridgewater, Massachusetts to close out the 2022 calendar year.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green last took the ice on Saturday, December 10 in the final game of a home-and-home series against Merrimack. After an overtime victory earlier in the week, Dartmouth was defeated at home by the Warriors, 4-3, to split the series.
Merrimack jumped out to a two-goal lead after the first period.
Georgia Kraus and
Laura Fuoco found the back of the net just 58 seconds apart in the second frame to send the game into the third tied, 2-2.
The Warriors responded with a pair of goals 31 seconds apart early in the third period to take a 4-2 lead.
Jenna Donohue scored with 20 seconds remaining in regulation, but the Big Green could not find an equalizer.
The Big Green outshot Merrimack 36-25 over the course of the contest. Dartmouth fell to 4-4-0 in non-conference action.
KEYS TO VICTORY
Dartmouth is 4-0-0 when allowing one goal or less. Sophomore
Maggie Emerson has recorded a pair of shutouts for the Big Green in wins over RPI and Post, while
Elle Sullivan allowed just one goal on 14 shots against Merrimack on December 7. Emerson also recorded a one-goal win over Saint Anselm on the road, stopping 17 of 18 chances.
The Big Green will look to score first in Friday's game against Stonehill. Three of Dartmouth's four wins have seen the Big Green score first, with a 2-1 win over Saint Anselm serving as the lone exception to this rule.
Special teams will be a major point of emphasis for Dartmouth this weekend. The Big Green have yet to win a game when allowing a goal on the penalty kill, while three of Dartmouth's four victories have featured a power play goal.
Success in the faceoff circle has also led to success in the win column for Dartmouth. The Big Green have won a majority of draws in three of their four wins and have won 55.1 percent of faceoffs in victories.
Sydney Herrington leads the Big Green, winning 61.5 percent of her faceoffs in Dartmouth's wins.
SCOUTING STONEHILL
Stonehill enters Friday's non-conference matchup with a record of 9-10-1, including a 6-6-0 mark in NEWHA contests. The Skyhawks have won three of their last four games, including a pair of conference games.
The Skyhawks last took the ice on December 2-3 at home against Lindenwood. Stonehill won the first game of the series in overtime by a score of 2-1, followed by a 5-3 victory to sweep the weekend against the Lions.
Stonehill holds a record of 1-2-1 against ECAC Hockey foes, which includes contests against Brown and RPI. The Skyhawks went 0-1-1 against Brown in a home-and-home series on October 21-22 before hosting RPI at home on November 25-26, splitting the series with the Engineers.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE SKYHAWKS
Friday will mark the first-ever meeting between the Big Green and Skyhawks
DARTMOUTH VS. NEWHA
