GREENVILLE, N.C. — Graduate
Jason Liu finished up the first two rounds of the ECU Intercollegiate carding a 76-75—151 (+7) to lead his Dartmouth team that was 40-over par (616). Southern Miss was 1-under in each of the two rounds to take an 11-stroke lead on the 12-team field with a 574 (-2).
Liu sank a birdie and had five pars on the front nine and again on the back in his opening round on the 6,830-yard, par-72 course at Brook Valley Country Club. On his second tour, he was just a little bit better with one birdie and six pars on each nine. Overall, the team captain is tied for 27th place out of 78 golfers.
Although senior
Mark Turner had one more birdie than Liu over the 36 holes, he finished a stroke behind his teammate with an 8-over 152. He provided the best round of any Big Green golfer over his first 18 by shooting even par with four birdies, including two on his last four holes. But he struggled in the afternoon round with just one birdie and nine bogeys to card an 8-over 80, leaving him tied for 35th.
Both sophomore
Alex Gu and freshman
Justin Lee were 5-over in the morning with Gu sinking three birdies and Lee one. But Lee nearly matched his performance in the second round with a 6-over 78 with three birdies while Gu parred half of the holes and bogeyed the other half.
Dartmouth will look to bounce back and climb a few rungs on the leaderboard in the third and final round tomorrow when the team tees off on the back nine at 9:12 a.m.
