NEWPORT, R.I. — The Dartmouth women's tennis team opened its fall slate Friday afternoon in Newport, Rhode Island, competing in the inaugural International Tennis Hall of Fame (ITHF) Women's Collegiate Invitational.
Brooke Hess and
Ujvala Jupalli, one of three Big Green duos in action, notched Dartmouth's lone victory on the opening day of the doubles tournament.
Hess and Jupalli edged Boston University's Nina Gulbransen and Sydney Sharma 7-6(7-4) in a neck-and-neck first set, then cruised to a 6-1 triumph in the ensuing set to punch their ticket to the quarterfinal round. The duo will take on Rhode Island's Grace Campanella and Ava Grnja Saturday morning.
Emily Bi and
Emily Zhou fell to a Brown pairing, while
Ashley Hess and
Valentina Cruz came up short against Georgetown to round out Dartmouth's afternoon. Action resumes on the grass courts Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
