LOOKING TO SNAP A FOUR-MATCH SKID
Dartmouth has faced a gauntlet of the top four teams in the Ivy League in its last four matches and that has resulted in a four-match losing streak for the Big Green. Dartmouth was close to picking up a key road win last Saturday at Harvard, which would have led to a tie for fourth in the standings, but the Crimson forced a fifth set and wouldn't be outdone on their homecourt. Now, the Big Green are tied with Cornell for fifth in the Ivy League.
Â
LAST TIME VERSUS COLUMBIA
Dartmouth bounced back after dropping the first set and ended up winning a five-setter thanks to a dominant fifth, which featured a .533 hitting percentage.
Amelia Gibbs played one of her best matches of the season, going for 14 kills at a .440 clip and
Makenzie Arent racked up a season-high 33 assists.
Â
LAST TIME VERSUS CORNELL
The Big Green had little issue cruising to a three-set win in Ithaca in late September for its first Ivy League win of the season. A .340 hitting percentage signaled Dartmouth's most efficient and dominant performance of the season.
Ellie Blain,
Bomi Ogunlari and
Kauany Gutz all had nine or more kills and hit better than .300, and of course
Amelia Gibbs was in the efficiency conversation, going for seven kills on just 11 attempts (.636).
Â
UPTICK IN FIVE-SETTERS
The Big Green didn't play any five-setters in 2022 and have now been part of five matches this season that went the distance. Dartmouth is 2-3 in those marathon affairs. It's still not much compared to the 2021 season, which features seven five-setters, including wins over Yale and Princeton.
Â
MILESTONE WATCH
Emma Engstrom is 29 away from 1,000 career digs and would be the 11th player in program history to reach the milestone. She was particularly successful as a first-year, ranking fourth in single-season program history with 4.77 digs per set.
Makenzie Arent is 60 assists away from 2,000 and would be the fourth Dartmouth player to clear 2,000.
Â
THE HOME STRETCH
After this weekend, the Big Green are home for two more (Yale on Friday, Nov. 3 and Brown on Saturday, Nov. 4) before hitting the road to face Princeton and Penn to close the season. The Ivy League Tournament begins Friday, Nov. 17 at the top seed and if the standings hold, Yale would host again.
