PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Opening the 2023-24 season against Brown and Princeton on Saturday at Brown's Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, the Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team had plenty of performances to be excited about despite a 199-101 loss to Brown and a 215-84 loss to Princeton.
"The men's performance in the 200 free against both Princeton and Brown shows the potential for this team to start to do some damage in the league," said head coach
Milana Socha. "I'm very proud of how the first-years stepped up, led by
Andy Peterson with a pair of wins. They all showed up ready to attack the competition and I'm looking forward to seeing us carry the momentum into next weekend."
Tim Park was the top finisher in the 200 free with a time of 1:39.51 and
Isaac Weigel followed in second at 1:39.64, giving the Big Green the top two spots over both Brown and Princeton. Dartmouth went 1-2-4-5 against both opponents in the event.
First-year
Andy Peterson had a collegiate debut to remember, defeating Brown in the 200 fly with a time of 1:50.08 and also besting the Bears in the 200 breast with a top-10 time in program history (1:49.65).
Alex Ye and
Eddy Chen both earned wins over Princeton and showed significant improvements from the previous season. Ye's win came in the 200 breast as he swam a 2:01.75, and Chen claimed the 100 breast over the Tigers with a time of 56.38 seconds.
Another standout first-year,
Logan Pack, defeated Brown in the 100 back at 50.48 seconds. Ivy League competition continues next weekend as the Big Green travel to Harvard to face the Crimson, along with Cornell, on Saturday, Nov. 11.
