HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team fell to the No. 9/10 Clarkson Golden Knights, 4-0 Saturday afternoon. The Big Green could not overcome the potent offense of the Golden Knights as Dartmouth dropped its final home game in ECAC Hockey action.
The Big Green were outshot 37 to 27 over the course of the game. Freshman goaltender
Elle Sullivan turned 33 shots from Clarkson aside, while Michelle Pasiechnyk shutout the Big Green, stopping all 27 chances she faced.
Dartmouth dominated the faceoff circle throughout the afternoon, as the Big Green won 65.5 percent of draws.
Lauren Messier won 12 of 15 faceoffs, while
CC Bowlby conceded just one draw in 12 attempts.
The Golden Knights opened the scoring after 15:20 of play, as Brooke McQuigge capitalized on a power play opportunity. Her sixth of the season was assisted by Anne Cherkowski and Stephanie Markowski.
Dartmouth's deficit grew to three as Kristyn McQuigge and Markowski scored just 59 seconds apart to take a 3-0 lead as the first period ended.
Clarkson opened the game strong, peppering Sullivan with 17 shots in the first 20 minutes of play. Dartmouth only managed to challenge Pasiechnyk with six shots, which were all turned aside.
The Golden Knights continued to pressure Sullivan during the second period. Cherkowski tacked on her second of the afternoon to extend Clarkson's lead to four 5:51 into the period. Dartmouth only registered seven shots in the second frame.
Despite four power play opportunities, Dartmouth was unable to trim the Clarkson lead. The Big Green could not solve Pasiechnyk, despite outshooting Clarkson 14-7 in the final frame.
Dartmouth fell to 7-20-0 with an 3-17-0 ECAC Hockey conference record. Clarkson improved to 24-8-2 and 13-6-1 in conference action.
The Big Green are back in action next weekend for their final regular season. Dartmouth is set for road matchups against Yale Friday, February 17 at 6 p.m. before its regular season finale against Brown the following day at 3 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet internationally.
