HANOVER, N.H. —
Logan Chang earned a dramatic three-set win on Court 6 to clinch a 4-3 victory for the Dartmouth men's tennis team over Brown on the closing day of the ECAC Championship at Alexis Boss Tennis Center.
Dartmouth won the doubles point for a second straight day before fending off the Bears in singles with the match eventually hinging on a three-set showdown between Chang and Alex Koong. The Big Green co-captain had dropped the first set, but used a resurgent 6-4 win in the second to force a third, where he eventually emerged victorious in tiebreak fashion.
"The doubles point was huge for us today," said
Xander Centenari, Dartmouth's John Kenfield and Chuck Kinyon Head Coach. "We came out with great energy and played well against a good Brown doubles squad. We took a lot of momentum into singles and got great starts on many courts. Tremendous toughness from all the guys today, and of course Logan as well. He was able to commit and trust fully in each moment and work his way back into the match. He played with conviction and commitment. That is the mark of an experienced and hard-working captain and upperclassman. This is a special team and it's awesome to be a part of it."
Chang was also a catalyst in doubles – his victory at the No. 2 position alongside
Henry Ren clinched the point for Dartmouth.
Hikaru Takeda and
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez had already finished a quick 6-1 triumph on Court 3.
Miles Groom extended Dartmouth's advantage with a two-set win at No. 2 singles before Takeda had the Big Green on the brink with a victory on Court 5. The next three decisions sided with Brown, and then all eyes were on Chang and Koong.
"Credit to Brown, who pushed us into third sets on several courts despite being down 3-0, they did not go away and fought until the end," Centenari added.
Dartmouth is back in action Sunday, Feb. 26 to host Colgate at 10 a.m. and Boston University at 3 p.m.
