Dartmouth fell by scores of 7-1 and 3-1 on its second day of action in California

STOCKTON, Calif. — The Dartmouth softball team continued its California trip with a doubleheader against the Pacific Tigers. The Big Green were unable to pick up their first win in the Golden State, falling by scores of 7-1 and 3-1.

Stella Bale and Rachel McCarroll split time in the circle in each contest, while Scarlett Lloyd and Vanessa Strong recorded wins for Pacific. Kate Farren and Mary Beth Cahalan registered RBIs for the Big Green.

Game One: Pacific 7, Dartmouth 1
Pacific jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as Carly Lucchetti recorded her second homer of the season to give her team an early lead. The solo-shot to right field gave the Tigers an advantage heading into the second.

The Big Green responded quickly, as Alaana Panu reached first with a single to open the second inning. A foul out was immediately followed by a triple from Kate Farren, which drove Panu home from first to tie the contest at 1-1.

Farren was caught attempting to steal home, and a strikeout on the following at-bat closed the top of the frame. The Tigers placed runners on first and second following a walk and a hit batter, which set up a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Lucchetti recorded a pair of RBIs with a double to right center to regain the lead for Pacific.

The Big Green were unable to cut into the deficit in the top of the fourth, and Rachel McCarroll was relieved by Stella Bale in the circle in the bottom of the inning. Allie Capello tacked three runs on the board after the Tigers loaded the bases with a double to center field as the Tigers' lead increased to five runs.

Pacific added another run to its lead in the fifth, as Nina Davis recorded a solo homer to left center. Dartmouth's deficit sat at six runs as the sixth inning approached. The Big Green placed runners on first and second with two outs recorded, but a strikeout to close the top of the sixth.

Dartmouth held Pacific off the board in the bottom of the sixth but could not mount a comeback in the top of the seventh as the Tigers took the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 7-1. The Big Green fell to 3-8, while Pacific improved to 7-13.

Game Two: Pacific 3, Dartmouth 1
The Big Green and Tigers each stranded runners in the first inning, as neither team could jump out to an early lead. The second frame featured less production from the bats, as both teams went three up, three down as the game remained scoreless.

Dartmouth's first two batters of the third were sent back before Ashley Frantz walked to first. Lauren Ben-Ezra recorded a single, moving Frantz to scoring position. A popup to first on the next at-bat ended the scoring opportunity. McCarroll forced three quick outs in the bottom of the frame to keep the contest deadlocked.

Singles from Panu and Maria Angelino and a walk from Farren loaded the bases for Dartmouth in the top of the fourth with no outs. The Big Green were unable to capitalize, stranding three on base. Pacific immediately took advantage, as Rian Dirmeyer recorded a two-RBI homer to right field to give the Tigers the lead.

Mary Beth Cahalan cut Dartmouth's deficit in half, as an RBI double brought Frantz home to bring the score to 2-1. The Tigers regained the two-run lead in the bottom of the fifth, as Kyla Eck hit a solo shot to right field.

Dartmouth could not fight its way to a lead, as Pacific completed the sweep of Thursday's doubleheader. The Big Green's record moved to 3-9, while the Tigers improved to 8-13.
