HANOVER, N.H. — With a challenging non-conference slate now in the books, Dartmouth welcomes Harvard for its first Ivy League match of the season on Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m.
Now 10-8 on the season after dropping each of their last five, including matches against No. 60 Penn State and No. 21 Middle Tennessee, the Big Green will vie for their second Ivy League title in the last five seasons. Dartmouth enjoyed a 10-3 start, which marked the best record through 13 matches since the 2018 season - a successful campaign that eventually led the team to its first conference crown since 1997.
Dartmouth got a taste of Ivy League action in February's ECAC Indoor Championship, which was capped by a thrilling 4-3 win over Brown.
DARTMOUTH DEPTH
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez has been solid at the top singles position, winning six of his last eight matches, and there are plenty of other Big Green victories to be found deeper in the lineup. Freshman
Henry Ren has a team-best 12-4 record having primarily played on Court 4.
Hikaru Takeda isn't far behind with an 11-5 mark, doing most of his damage at the No. 5 spot.
Logan Chang and
Alex Knox-Jones have split time on Court 6 and combine for an 11-7 record in that position.
FRESHMAN DUO
Waleed Qadir and
Miles Groom have been fixtures at No. 1 doubles for the Big Green with an 8-5 record and didn't suffer their first loss until a Feb. 26 meeting with Boston University, which was the duo's 11th outing together. Depth is evident in doubles action as well –
Carlos Guerrero Alvarez and
Hikaru Takeda are 9-5 on Court 3 and recently embarked on a five-match win streak.
AROUND THE ANCIENT EIGHT
No. 10 Columbia, No. 11 Harvard, No. 29 Cornell and No. 49 Princeton all appear in the top-50 of the most recent ITA rankings. Columbia made a statement by winning the ECAC Championship in Hanover and boasts an impressive 11-2 record with ranked wins like a 4-0 triumph over No. 12 Northwestern to its credit. Harvard is 11-4 on the season, picking up where it left off from last season's conference-undefeated run to the Ivy title.
LOOKING AHEAD
After a trip to Brown on Friday, April 7, Dartmouth returns home to host Yale on Sunday, April 9 for the first of three straight Ivy League matches in Hanover.
