A competitive day of racing saw Dartmouth win six of eight races on the day
FAIRLEE, Vt. – Amidst a strong field of nationally-ranked crews, the Dartmouth men's heavyweight rowing team impressed on day one of the Lake Morey Invite, winning six of its eight races on the day. The day began with wins in all three of the morning sessions before winning three of the five in the afternoon.
The morning featured the Big Green winning the Varsity Eight with a time of 5:40.21, better than Wisconsin in second (5:46.09) and Georgetown in third (5:52.34). The Second Varsity Eight saw the same order of finish, with Dartmouth in first (5:49.25), followed by Wisconsin (5:53.84) and Georgetown (6:02.19).
The Big Green were victorious in the Varsity Four as well, as their A boat had a time of 6:50.02, followed by the B boat (6:59.43), then Syracuse (7:11.84).
The afternoon/evening session saw Syracuse narrowly beat Dartmouth (5:46.15 compared to 5:48.68) to take the Packard Cup.
The Orange were also victorious in the Second Varsity Eight by just over a second, but the Big Green came in first in the Third Varsity Eight by just 0.2 seconds (5:59.2 to 5:59.4). Dartmouth also won the 4V (6:03.17) and Varsity Four (6:54.88).
The Big Green will return to action Sunday morning for the final day of the Lake Morey Invite beginning at 8 a.m. with the Varsity Eight against Boston University.
