TAMPA, Fla. — Kicking off the spring season in Tampa on the opening day of Tropical 7s, the Dartmouth women's rugby team competed in both the Elite division and the Open division, combining for a 5-1 record during an action-packed Friday afternoon.
In the Elite division, the Big Green rolled to a 41-0 victory over LIU and a 38-7 triumph over Lindenwood before edging Life University, 19-14, in the final match of the afternoon.
Six different Dartmouth players found the try zone in the win over LIU before
Sadie Schier, with two tries, led another balanced offensive contingent against Lindenwood.
Sophie Ragg found the try zone twice in the win over Life, in addition to another score from Schier.
In the Open division, Dartmouth suffered its lone loss to Hawkeyes Rugby, 26-21, but also rolled to a 46-0 shutout of Lander, plus a 29-5 win over Queens.
Vanessa Ortiz-Pallen led Dartmouth with a pair of tries against Queens, the team's first match of the day.
Josie Harrison and
Reign Jefferson both scored twice in the dominant win over Lander, and Harrison was one of three to reach the try zone in the loss to Hawkeyes Rugby.
The elite team is set to face Life in the first match of Saturday's slate at 11 a.m. The open team will open Saturday against Durham College at 8 a.m.
