TAMPA, Fla. — The Dartmouth women's rugby team finished second in the Open Division and fourth in the Elite Division on the final day of Tampa 7s, the culmination of the Big Green's first action of the spring season, on Saturday.
Dartmouth made a run to the championship match in the Open division, but ultimately dropped a 31-7 decision to Davenport. A 22-14 win over Durham College advanced the Big Green to the next round, where they faced Queens and earned a 14-7 victory. Davenport defeated Clemson and Hawkeyes Rugby before besting Dartmouth in the final.
Lauren Ferridge scored two tries against Durham in the day's first match and again found the try zone in the Queens match.
Vanessa Ortiz-Pallen scored the Big Green's lone try in the championship match.
In the Elite division, where Dartmouth was undefeated through three matches on Friday, the Big Green continued their momentum with a 37-0 win over Life University (Green), but losses to Harvard and Lindenwood landed them in a fourth-place finish. Life University (Black) went on to win the championship match over Harvard.
Six different players scored tries in the 37-0 rout of Life, including
Asialeata Meni, who twice reached paydirt.
Sophie Ragg scored in the Harvard match and later notched two tries against Lindenwood.
Dartmouth is set to host the Ivy 7s Tournament on Saturday, April 22 on Brophy Field. All the action will be streamed on ESPN+.
