Big Green Open 2024 With Hard-Fought 6-3 Win at Amherst

A tight matchup included two Dartmouth victories that took over an hour

AMHERST, Mass. — The 10th ranked Dartmouth men's squash team returned to action for the first time in 2024 with a hard-fought 6-3 victory at No. 18 Amherst on Saturday afternoon. The first three positions finished 3-0, two of which were Big Green wins, but each of the last six positions finished 3-2 or 3-1, including a pair of hour-long marathons. Juniors Mac Aube and Christian Shah were victorious at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, via 3-0 sweeps.

With the win, Dartmouth improves to 3-2 while Amherst falls to 5-4.

First-year Callan Venkatesan had the longest match of the afternoon, winning 3-2 at No. 8, which took an hour and three minutes. After dropping the first two games 11-7 and 11-6, he came back to win 13-11, 11-7 and 12-10, in impressive fashion.

Senior David Rubin's 3-2 victory at No. 4 took just one less minute, as he and Amherst's Abhimanyu Gupta alternated points, with Rubin winning the first, third and fifth games.

Junior Quintin Campbell at No. 5 won, 3-1, but the third game featured a 19-17 Campbell victory, before finishing Neal Malani off in the fourth game, 11-4.

Sophomore Felix Feldman also picked up a victory on the afternoon, winning 3-2. After dropping the first game, he won three of the next four, including the final two.

The Big Green return to action on Sunday when they host No. 12 Tufts at 2 p.m. at the Berry Squash Courts. It will mark Dartmouth's first home match of the 2023-24 season.
