CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Dartmouth men's tennis saw two doubles team advance to the round of 16 on Saturday at the ITA New England Regional Tournament.
After advancing with an 8-3 win on Friday, Alex Knox-Jones and Leo Pade punched their ticket to the round of 16 with an 8-5 win over a duo from Boston College. They face a team from Brown on Sunday as they look to advance to the quarterfinals.
Miles Groom and Waleed Qadir also won their round of 32 match on Saturday. The duo defeated a team from Le Moyne 8-2 to move on in the single elimination tournament. Groom and Qadir face a team from Cornell in the round of 16.
Denny Bao and Carlos Guerrero Alvarez fell in the round of 32 8-5 to a team from Boston College on Saturday.
In singles action, Guerrero Alvarez won his first match of the day in three sets to move on to the round of 16. He dropped the first set in the round of 32 7-6 but edged out a 7-6 win in the second set to force a third set. He dominated the third set winning 6-2 to move on. Later in the day he fell in straight sets in the round of 16 6-4, 6-0.
Zihao Yuan dropped his round of 32 singles matchup on Sunday 6-3, 6-1 to close out his run in the main single draw.
Despite the success in opening round of the main draw Knox-Jones fell 6-2,6-3 on Saturday.
Yujiro Onuma played a back and forth round of 32 match on Saturday. He won the opening set 6-2 but fell 6-2, 6-4 in the second and third sets.
The duos of Knox-Jones/Pade and Groom/Qadir look to stay alive on Sunday and earn a spot in the quarterfinals.
