SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Big Green headed to Union for their fourth straight road game Saturday, looking to build momentum from a late goal Friday night.
Dartmouth opened a lead in the first period, but Union battled back, scoring two in the third period to defeat the Big Green, 2-1.
With the loss, the Big Green move to 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in ECAC Hockey play.
Dartmouth got on the board first Saturday, scoring just over 12 and a half minutes into the game.
Meredith Jensen sent a pass from a low angle into the slot, finding the stick of
Cally Dixon who tipped the puck beyond Union's goaltender to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead.
The Big Green and Garnet Chargers played an even second period, each registering six shots on goal and playing five-on-five for the full 20 minutes, resulting in the Big Green still up by one after 40 minutes of play.
Early in the third, the Big Green took a penalty, putting the Garnet Chargers on the power play. Union was able to capitalize, tying the game. Just under ten minutes later, Union got a hold of a loose puck in the crease and tucked it in to give them a 2-1 lead.
The Big Green did find themselves on the power play towards the end of the game, hoping to emulate their success on the man advantage late in the third period from Friday's game. Dartmouth fired off multiple shots, generating multiple chances, but were unable to find the back of the net, ultimately falling to the Garnet Chargers, 2-1.
While the Big Green held a lead for nearly two periods, Head Coach Maura Crowell emphasized the importance of her team playing a full 60 minutes.
"We need to get in better shape to finish off games, but also just mentally to be ready for the adversity that comes," Crowell said after the game. "It's a long game, 60 minutes. It's not done ager 20 or 40. You gotta finish it off and gotta play tight defensively and expect that other teams are gonna push, especially when they're behind."
Dartmouth women's hockey will play their home opener next weekend, welcoming Brown and Yale to Thompson Arena. Crowell's message to her team headed into the home opener is to get better.
"I'm a firm believer that what you do every day translates into how your weekends are going to go," Crowell said. "So, we're going to get back to work as we always do and raise the intensity level. That's what we need to do so that games aren't as hard for us."
Puck drop against Brown on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. and puck drop against Yale on Saturday is slated for 6 p.m. You can watch both games on ESPN+ or purchase tickets to see the Big Green here.
