HANOVER, N.H. – This past weekend, the Big Green sailing teams headed to Maryland and Maine, competing in the first round of the Open Atlantic Coast Championship and the Hewitt Trophy.
At the Open Atlantic Coast Championship,
Will Michels,
Reese Bragg, Allie Pierce,
Ryan Satterberg,
Chase Decker,
Caroline Leicht, and
Phoebe Lee combined for a fourth-place overall finish. The A Division posted 87 points while the B Division earned 85 for 172 total points.
The Big Green started the day on top with a second place finishing position. The two divisions fluctuated in the standings through the fifth set of races, before beginning a steady climb to fourth place overall.
Across both divisions, the Big Green collected 15 top 10 finishes over the next 16 races, ten of which were in the top five.
At the Hewitt Trophy, the Dartmouth sailing team posted 68 points in the A Division and 84 points in the B Division for 152 total and a tenth-place finish. The quartet of
Sophie Menyhart,
Ava Hurwitz,
Rowan Magee and Will Eggena battled through light winds and strong currents on the water.
14 of the Big Green's 18 races across the two divisions saw them finish in the top 10 while the group's best performance came in the A Division's sixth race, earning a second-place finishing position.
The Dartmouth Sailing team will return to the water next weekend, hosting the Captain Hurst Trophy on Lake Mascoma and traveling to UNH for the Peak Foliage Invitational. After a fifth place finish at the first round of the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship two weekends ago, the Big Green will also compete in the finals hosted by Navy.
