HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth men's hockey hosted Stonehill for the first time in program history on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Arena. The Big Green skated away with a 5-2 win over the Skyhawks.
Dartmouth opened the scoring at the 9:17 mark of the opening period as captain Sean Chisholm notched his first goal of the year on the power play. With the Big Green on a five on three power play, CJ Foley skated the puck through the neutral zone. Foley fed the puck to Nikita Nikora who made a deke before hitting the Stonehill blueline. Nikora then slid the puck to Chisholm who rifled home a wrister from just below the left faceoff dot to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead.
Neither team scored for the remainder of the opening period as shots were 8-5 in favor of Dartmouth. The Big Green won 11 of 19 faceoffs in the first period.
The Big Green found themselves back on the power play at the 7:02 mark of the second period. 80 seconds into the power play, the Big Green made it a 2-0 lead. The Big Green had control in the Stonehill zone and Nikora had the puck in the right faceoff circle. He passed the puck to the slot and Chisholm redirected the puck to Hayden Stavroff on the back door. Stavroff fired home his second goal in as many games.
Just over two and a half minutes later, the Big Green made it a 3-0 lead. John Fusco took a pass from his defense partner Eric Charpentier. J. Fusco skated to the high slot and ripped a wrister through traffic for his first goal of the season. Jack Silverberg picked up his first NCAA point on the play with an assist.
The Big Green were back on the board just 26 seconds later as Nikora netted his first goal of the year. Ian Pierce gained the zone and flew behind the Stonehill net. He threw a backhand no look pass to Nikora who cut to the front of the net. Nikora roofed the puck into the top right corner for his first goal of the season. Pierce and J. Fusco picked up their first assists of the year on the play.
The scoring wasn't done in the second period as the Big Green made it a 5-0 game at the 17:40 mark while shorthanded. Charpentier and Steven Townley forced a turnover at the Dartmouth blueline. Charpentier then passed the puck to Cam MacDonald who split the defense to go in on a breakaway. He took a wrist shot that beat the goalie over his right shoulder for his first of the season.
After two periods, Dartmouth was outshooting Stonehill 19-12 while leading 5-0. The Big Green went 11-4 in the faceoff circle in the second period.
Stonehill scored a pair of goals in the third period but could not mount anymore of a comeback.

Dartmouth went 33-23 in the faceoff circle with Chisholm winning 11 of 16 draws to lead the team. Townley went 10-4 in the circle for a 71.4 winning percentage.
