Women’s Squash Wins Two Individual Matches, Falls to Columbia 7-2

Emily Schuster and Zayna Usman each collected victories at the sixth and seventh positions

HANOVER, N.H. – The women's squash team won two of their matches on Saturday afternoon, and collected a few individual game wins, but ultimately fell to Columbia 7-2 at the Berry Squash Courts. The Big Green fall to 5-7 on the season and remain winless in Ivy League play whereas the Lions move to 3-7 and collect their first Ivy League victory.

The two Big Green victories came at the sixth and seventh positions courtesy of senior Emily Schuster and first-year Zayna Usman. Schuster dominantly started her match at the sixth position, defeating Columbia's Amal Izhar 13-11 in the first game. She cruised to victory in the second game (11-3) before battling for the sweep, collecting a 12-10 third game victory.

Usman lost her first game in extra points (10-12) but won the next three games to complete the victory. The middle two games were close, as Usman allowed eight and nine points, however, was able to win in extra points in the final set (12-10) to secure the 3-1 victory.

First-year Ellie Clifford, senior Ellie Burke and sophomore Callie Worth were each able to win one of their games and get on the board. Clifford won her third game (11-5), Burke won her first game (11-9) and battled in the fourth game, and Worth won her second game (11-9), but each fell to their opponents 3-1.

The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow to face No. 8 Cornell on Senior Day. The matches from the Berry Squash Courts are set to start at 12 p.m. You can follow along with the live scoring on the official Dartmouth sports website.
