LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Dartmouth softball team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday, defeating Butler thanks to timely offense and an excellent performance from
Jensin Hall in the circle, and the Big Green followed it up with
Rachel McCarroll's one-hit gem to power a win over host Bellarmine.

GAME 1: Dartmouth 4, Butler 3
First-year Hall turned in another impressive outing in the opener, fanning 10 Butler hitters over five innings of work to help lead the Big Green past the Bulldogs, 4-3. The Frisco, Texas native allowed two earned runs on three hits, and her 10 strikeouts are the most in a game by any Big Green pitcher since Brooke Plonka's 11 against Brown on April 9, 2022.
Â
Dartmouth and Butler were knotted 3-3 until the top of the sixth, when
Cwen Wilson and
Ashley Frantz led with back-to-back hits before
Mary Beth Cahalan knocked in the go-ahead run with a double to left center. McCarroll pitched the final two innings and limited the Bulldogs to two hits and no runs, securing the Big Green's first win of the season.
Â
Allie Ohde recorded a career-high three hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, to account for nearly half of Dartmouth's seven total hits. It was Ohde who tied the game at 3-3 in the third with a single up the middle as the Big Green and the Bulldogs continued to trade runs, starting with
Olivia Schramm's first-inning sacrifice fly.
Alaana Panu delivered a 2-2 deadlock in the second, drawing a walk to score Ohde, who led the inning with a single.
Â
Kayla Noerr went the distance in the circle for the Bulldogs, and Cate Lehner starred offensively with three hits in the leadoff spot.
Â
GAME 2: Dartmouth 2, Bellarmine 0
The Big Green scored two runs in the third inning and that more was more than enough support for McCarroll, who pitched a one-hit shutout in the nightcap. The game was called during the top of the sixth inning.
Â
The two-run third came after Wilson walked, moved to third on Frantz's single and scored on a pass ball. Frantz later scored on Panu's sacrifice fly.
Â
McCarroll's bid at a perfect game was broken up by Olivia Bricker's fifth-inning single. Dartmouth's five hits came from five different batters, including
Olivia Schramm, who doubled in the unfinished sixth inning.
Â
The Big Green are back in action on Friday to begin the Louisville Classic against South Dakota. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. and live stats will be available via DartmouthSports.com.
