WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Dartmouth men's lacrosse team fell behind 5-0 in the early going and could never recover in a 21-9 loss at 10th-ranked Georgetown on Tuesday afternoon in our nation's capital. Trailing 11-3 early in the third quarter, the Big Green scored four of the next seven goals to pull within 14-7 early in the fourth, but the Hoyas answered with six straight goals to erase any doubt. Senior Henry Bonnie and fifth-year Tommy Rogan each had two goals and an assist to lead the offense.
With the loss, Dartmouth falls to 3-4 heading into Saturday's Ivy League opener. Georgetown improves to 5-2.
"Going into the game, we knew Georgetown was going to be a really strong opponent," said Dartmouth head coach Sean Kirwan. "We knew that we had to bring our best. Unfortunately, it felt like we were fighting two teams out there, both Georgetown and ourselves. It's the story of the setbacks we've had so far this year, shooting ourselves in the foot and not executing at a high enough rate. Georgetown is the type of team that certainly makes you pay every time you make those kinds of mistakes."
Bonnie's three points marked his third straight multi-point game, and second straight multi-goal game. Meanwhile, Rogan recorded three points for a second time in as many games this season, following three goals in his first action of the season on Thursday at Vermont. Junior Colin McGill scored one goal, which marked the 100th point of his career.

Senior Nate Davis (one goal, one assist) and junior Brandon Ventarola (two assists) each posted multiple points as well. Defensively, six different Big Green recorded a caused turnover, including senior Mitchell Myers, who also won 10-of-22 faceoffs with six groundballs.
Georgetown jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind five different goal-scorers, the fifth coming with 8:40 left in the first quarter. Junior Quinn Moore scored Dartmouth's first goal for a second straight game, pulling the Big Green within 5-1 with 3:12 left in the first quarter.

Around that same time a period later, Rogan netted his first at the 3:10 mark to pull Dartmouth within 8-3, but the Hoyas scored with 17 seconds and one second remaining in the half to take a 10-3 lead at the break.
The sides alternated goals throughout the third quarter, with Dartmouth's goals coming from Davis, Bonnie and Rogan.
Big Green scored twice in that third quarter, beginning with this Nate Davis rocket. Dartmouth trails Georgetown 14-6 as we head to the fourth.

Junior long pole Joe Azelby then scored his first of the season just 15 seconds into the fourth quarter, but Georgetown answered with six straight goals to turn a 14-7 lead into a 20-7 advantage. Bonnie netted his second at 5:36, with junior Tyler Ford scoring the first goal of his career in the final seconds to account for the 21-9 final. Sophomore Zak Oehlerking picked up the assist on the play, marking his first-career point.
Final shots were 44-27 in favor of Georgetown while the Hoyas held a 43-25 edge in groundballs. Junior Mason Morel finished with a career-high tying 12 saves in the game's first 50:07, allowing 17 goals. He stopped 11-of-21 shots in the first half, including 9-of-13 in the second quarter.
The Big Green return to action on Saturday when they host No. 12 Penn at 12 p.m. in their Ivy League opener.
"Georgetown is a great opponent, a really well-coached team and very athletic," said Kirwan. "It's something that we'll see in spades as we head into league play. It's a good reminder of all the work that needs to be done and also a good reminder of how razor thin the margins can be. If we're not executing at a high enough rate, we're going to have our work cut out for us.
"It's back to work; there's nothing like that first Ivy game and the prep that goes into it. We're excited to move past this one and move into Ivy play."
