RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Nathan Cmeyla and Elliot Krewson each racked up four hits to help power the Dartmouth Big Green over the California Baptist Lancers 18-12 on Tuesday.
With the win, the Big Green move to 4-8 on the season, leaving California with a winning record and surpassing their wins total from last year.
The Big Green got out to a quick lead, adding one run in the first inning on a Kolton Freeman double. They extended their lead in the second inning, getting out to a 7-0 lead, highlighted by a two RBI single by Cmeyla.
California Baptist cut into the Big Green lead in the third inning, adding three runs to make the score 7-3. While the Big Green added another run in the fourth inning, the Lancers immediately responded, adding two of their own to make the score 8-5 in favor of the Big Green.
Momentum continued to swing the Lancers' way as they tied the game in the fifth inning. Dartmouth then added ten runs over the next four innings, outscoring the Lancers and securing the 18-12 victory. While Cmeyla and Freeman continued to produce through the final four innings, Krewson also played an important role, reaching on an error that scored a run in the seventh inning and blasting a two-run home run in the ninth to give the Big Green extra insurance runs.
Nate Isler started on the mound for the Big Green, pitching the first 3.2 innings. Mac Burke, Jack Metzger, and Joseph Chambers all appeared in relief. Metzger, who collected the save in two of the Big Green's previous three wins on the road trip, continued his strong pitching, collecting the win. He pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
The Big Green will return to the East Coast and continue their stretch of road games this weekend when they face Yale for their first Ivy League games of the year.
