LEONIA, N.J. — After a successful stint training at Clemson over spring break, the Dartmouth men's heavyweight rowing team began the spring season on Saturday by beating Ivy League foe Columbia in a pair of events at Overpeck Park in New Jersey.
Â
The morning started with the Big Green's second varsity eight beating the Lions by exactly eight seconds (6:21.662 to 6:29.662). Dartmouth's varsity eight then went on beat Columbia by just over a second and a half.
Â
"We told our group last night that Ivy League wins are hard to come by and that proved to be true today," said
Wyatt Allen, Betsy and Mark Gates 1959 Head Coach of Men's Heavyweight Rowing. "Columbia is a much-improved program and we were fortunate to come out on top of a tight race in the 1V. We have many areas to improve on, and we are looking forward to getting back to work on Monday in preparation for Yale in two weeks."

The Big Green return to action on Saturday, Apr. 13 when they travel to Yale to face the Bulldogs.
